We Need Your Help! Proctors Needed!
Hello there! Please consider completing this Google Form to indicate you are willing to serve as a proctor for testing at Terry Sanford High School. As a special incentive, senior parents and family members who volunteers affiliated with these students, will earn their graduate two (2) extra graduation tickets (limit of two per graduate).
Proctors serve an important role during testing by serving as additional monitors who help the test administrator ensure testing occurs fairly and uniformly. Proctors are responsible adult community volunteers (i.e., age 18 or older and not enrolled as a student in the K–12 public school system), school staff, or school system staff. A proctor should not be assigned to proctor in a room where his or her relative or ward is to be tested. Relatives and wards include children, stepchildren, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, siblings, in-laws, and persons under the proctor’s guardianship.

Please mark your calendars for important assessment dates. Please ensure that students are present on the dates provided for assessments.
Pre-ACT Assessment
Pre-ACT (10th Graders)
Date of Assessment: October 28, 2025
Pre-ACT assessment is a required assessment for our 10th Graders. Pre-ACT is a practice exam for the ACT, as part of the state's accountability program to predict future ACT performance and help identify strengths and weaknesses.
PSAT Assessments
We would like to inform our families about the upcoming PSAT assessments that will be administered to our 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students. PSAT comes in three (3) forms: PSAT 8/9, PSAT 10, and PSAT/NMSQT.
Each grade level will participate in a different version of the PSAT, designed to help students prepare for future academic challenges and assess their readiness for college-level work. The school will register students for these assessments and is covering the cost.
PSAT 8/9 (9th Graders)
Date of Assessment: October 28, 2025
The PSAT 8/9 is designed specifically for 9th-grade students. It serves as a baseline measurement of skills and knowledge in reading, writing, and mathematics, helping students understand their current academic standing. This assessment is also a useful tool for teachers and counselors to support students in developing stronger academic skills.
PSAT 10 (10th Graders)
Date of Assessment: Spring 2026 - TBD
The PSAT 10 is similar in format to the PSAT/NMSQT but is designed for 10th-grade students. It continues to assess students in critical areas such as reading, writing, and math. Like the PSAT 8/9, it provides valuable feedback on academic progress and helps students identify areas for improvement as they prepare for more advanced coursework.
PSAT/NMSQT (11th Graders)
Date of Assessment - October 28, 2025
The PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is designed for 11th-grade students. In addition to helping students prepare for the SAT, this assessment is used to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program, a prestigious opportunity that can lead to significant scholarship awards.
AP Potential
For our 9th and 10th graders, the results of the PSAT 8/9 and PSAT 10 will be used to help identify students' AP Potential. AP Potential is a tool created by the College Board that uses PSAT scores to predict a student’s likelihood of success in Advanced Placement (AP) courses. This information is invaluable in guiding our course scheduling for the next school year, as it helps us place students in challenging courses where they are likely to thrive and succeed.
We believe that taking the appropriate PSAT is an important step in preparing students for academic success and post-secondary opportunities.
End of Course (EOC) Tests
We have many new families with Cumberland County Schools and want to ensure that you are informed of the EOC required assessments that students take the last five (5) days of each semester. EOCs will be administered: December 15th - 19th
- Tests are given the last 5 days of the semester.
- Tests are given for English II, Math 1, Math 3, and Biology.
- Students enrolled in these classes for credit must take the appropriate EOC at the conclusion of the course.
- English and Math Tests are aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Biology is aligned to the North Carolina Essential Standards for Science.
- English II contains multiple choice and constructed response items.
- Math 1 includes both calculator active and inactive sections. It is also comprised of both multiple choice and technology-enhanced items.
- Math 3 is entirely calculator active and is comprised of multiple choice and technology-enhanced items.
- Biology includes multiple choice and technology-enhanced items.
- Results from the EOC are required to be used as 20% of the final course grade.
If your child is enrolled in these courses, they will take the EOC. If you have any questions about EOC, please reach out to your child's teacher.
If you have any questions about any of the assessments, please reach out to Ms. Taylor Price, our Assistant Principal/Testing Coordinator. Her email is: taylorprice@ccs.k12.nc.us.
