Daily Announcements & Upcoming Events

  • ACT preparation workshops for current juniors on Thursday 2/15, Tuesday 2/20, and Thursday 2/22.  They will be taking the ACT on February 27, 2018, and we want all students to give it their best effort. https://sites.google.com/ccs.k12.nc.us/act-prep/act-mission-possible
  • This is just a reminder that our first ACT workshops will be Thursday, February 15. There will be morning and afternoon sessions.  Morning session attendees will report to the media center at 8:45 after checking in with their first-period teacher. Afternoon session attendees will eat first lunch after checking in with their 3rd-period teacher.  The session will begin as soon as lunch dismisses. Please review the rosters so that all juniors can attend their assigned workshop. Attendance will be taken on the shared rosters.
  • All Seniors who paid their dues are invited to a Valentine’s Day luncheon Feb 14 in the media center. Senior shirts are now here and will be distributed at this luncheon. Make plans to attend.
  • SENIORS: It’s not too late to get a Senior Ad for the Yearbook!  Swing by Mrs. Armstrong’s room (38) or the front office to pick up the forms.
  • Prom will be at the Crown Ballroom on Saturday, April 21st 7 to 11. This year’s theme is Hollywood in Lights.
  • The computer lab is open daily for students who need extra time getting work completed.  Tutors will be available every Tuesday and Thursday morning and afternoon.  We are almost at the end of the first quarter, how are your grades?  Don’t wait until it’s too late to pass your classes.
  • Any guys interested in participating in Mr. FTS this year will need to pick up an application outside of Mr. Hight’s room, room 220. They will need to be turned in no later than February 23rd along with the $5 pageant fee. The theme is “It’s Raining Men”, and will be held on March 7th at 6:30.
  • Global students – how are those volunteer hours?  The deadline is end of March, do you have your hours completed yet?  See Mrs. Vajner or check the remind app for additional opportunities that are available.
Athletic Information:

  • In basketball action both the girls and boys won their quarterfinal games. The girls will travel to EESH to play Gray’s Creek tonight at 6. Thursday the boys will be home against PFHS at 7:30.
  • Congratulations to Pierre Y., Ferris A., and Finley A. on placing top 4 at the Regional Wrestling tournament.  Pierre placed 4th at the 106 weight class, Ferris placed first at the 170 weight class, and Finley placed third.  They will compete at the state championships Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in Greensboro.  Wish these guys luck!
  • All Spring Athletes mark your calendar……..February 26th will be the mandatory parent eligibility meeting at 6 pm in the Auditorium.   Any 2017 Fall or Winter athlete that would like to set up an account for college scouting purposes are welcome to attend as well.  Please see Ms. McGowan if you have any question.
  • Tomorrow, Thursday, February 15, there will be a quick volleyball meeting in the media center with Coach Kieschnik right after school.
Club Information:

  • Mu Alpha Theta last competition is Thursday, Feb 15 after school in room 16.  Topic general knowledge.
  • SkillsUSA will be meeting Thursday and Friday of this week at 3:45 in rm 32, if your planning to compete in regionals you must be present at these meetings.
  • Science Olympiad will meet Saturday 2/16 from 9-2 in room 56 for a group practice. Building materials will be provided for your events. Refreshments and Lunch will also be provided. All members should attend.

Senior/Scholarship Information:

  • Seniors, new scholarship opportunities have been posted in Edmodo. Don’t miss out on a chance to get college paid for! The code for the Edmodo page is in the Counseling Office on the Scholarship Board.
  • Seniors if you have received acceptance letters and/or scholarship offers and letters from the colleges and universities you have applied to, please make sure you get copies to your counselor. This information will be on display as well as logged in our scholarship report!
  • Mark your calendars for the eighth annual College Fair. This is a great opportunity to learn about academic programs, financial aid, registration requirements as well as the enrollment process. CACRAO. College Fair
  • Seniors who are applying to a college or university which require a counselor or teacher recommendation-remember that you will need to give a copy of a resume to your counselor and/or teacher so that they may write a recommendation for you. Counselors and teachers are receiving email notifications to submit recommendations online-but students have not submitted a copy of their resume to this individual. There are worksheet resumes in the counseling department for your convenience to fill out and leave with your counselor. There is also a Google Form that students can utilize on the Terry Sanford website. See the Student Services page under Forms…Student Recommendations Form.
  • It’s that time of year again to engage some of the seniors about the amazing Scholarship Opportunities available through the Horatio Alger Association. Currently, two $25,000 National Scholarships and twelve $10,000 state scholarships are available to NC graduating seniors, in addition to the new $2,500 CTE Scholarships for students who will attend a Technical or Community College.
  • NC State University
    College of EngineeringEngineering 2+2 Transfer Program at UNC Wilmington
    -A unique partnership between NC State and UNCW
    -Students complete the first two years of an undergraduate engineering degree at UNCW and then transfer to NC State to complete the degree in one of the 17-degree programs.
    -This program provides students an alternative pathway for admission to the NC State College of Engineering
