Daily Announcements & Upcoming Events

General Information:

  • Finals are just around the corner,  to help you end on a high note, computer lab ( room 7) will be available before and after school for students who need to complete class work or get help with their subjects.
  • Please note that the first day of the second semester for FTCC High School Connections will be Tuesday, January 23, 2018.  Any student who chose another day/time other than what is offered in the curriculum guide will need to check their WebAdvisor – those classes will start Tuesday, January 16.
  • Any student – 9th-12th grades – can add a Teleconference Class to the Spring Semester – see your counselor this week to add the class to your spring schedule.
  • Seniors–the Counseling Office needs your acceptance letters and scholarship offers! So far the Class of 2018 has turned in over $300,000 of scholarship money. Get those letters turned in and earn a spot on the Senior Brag Board!
  • Registration for the 2018-2019 school year is almost here! An information session will be held in the Media Center from 5:oo p.m.-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17. Scheduling, course availability, and the registration process will be discussed at this meeting. Be sure to arrive on time!
  • Please note that the first day of the second semester for FTCC High School Connections will be Tuesday, January 23, 2018.  Any student who chose classes outside the regular High School Connections sections – your classes will start Tuesday, January 16.  Please check your WebAdvisor to make sure your classes are correct and let your counselor know if there is a problem. If we have any delays due to weather you must log on to Blackboard and complete the initial assignment.
  • SGA will be holding the annual crowning of Mr. and Miss. Bulldog at the Coming Home Pep-Rally, February 9th. We are asking each homeroom teacher to pick one boy and one girl from each class that displays a positive and hardworking attitude and set a good example for their classmates. You are given the option of voting with your students or submitting two names of your choice. We will create a ballot with all of the names we receive and have the students vote at lunch. Each class will have their own ballot, and there will be a Mr. and Miss. Bulldog for each grade.
  • The Coming Home dance will be February 10th from 7:30 to 10:30 at Skyview on Hay which is 121 Hay Street, Downtown!! It’s a Valentine’s Day-themed dance so dress to impress!!! Outside guests are allowed but must be approved. Outside guest forms will be located on the SGA board and Mr. Hight’s room 220. They are due by January 26th!
  • Congratulation to James T. who qualified for Eastern Regional Symphony Orchestra. James will perform with the orchestra on February 18th at Pinecrest High School.  Way to go James!
Athletic Information:

  • The Lacrosse team will hold workouts Wednesday and Thursday after school until 5:15. One last interest meeting for Spring Lacrosse will be next Tuesday, Jan. 16 in room 33 right after school. All girls interested in learning the fastest growing sport in America are welcome to come to the meeting. If you need more info please see Coach White. All are welcome to attend the workout as long as you have a current physical on file.
  • The Bowling teams will be at B&B Lanes Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. The wrestling team senior night will be Wednesday against PFHS. All students who attend will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win $100.00 cash!!! So make plans next Wednesday to come out and support our Wrestling team!!! Match time is 6:00 p.m. Varsity Boys and Girls Basketball teams will be home this Friday against Overhill for this major Patriot Conference match-up. Tip-off is at 6:00 p.m.
  • There will be an interest meeting for Spring Lacrosse next Tuesday, Jan. 23 in room 33 right after school.   • Spring Try-outs are right around the corner.  All student-athletes must have and complete an Arbiter account prior to try-outs.  Arbiter can be accessed on the Terry Sanford Athletic Website.  If you have any questions please see your coaches or Ms. McGowan.
  • Congratulations to Devon M. who qualified for the 2018 indoor track state meet this weekend in the 55-meter hurdles. Devon’s time of 8.44 seconds placed him in third and also guaranteed him a spot in the state meet which will be held on February 10th at JDL Fast Track in Winston Salem.
Club Information:

  • The Speech and Debate club practices T, W & F from 3:45 to 4:45 in room 227 with Mr. Barbour.  Our next tournament is right around the corner in January.  It’s not too early for veterans to get ready.  It’s not too late for new students to become involved.
  • Are you looking for a way to relax, reduce stress, and improve your performance in school? The Mindfulness Club is for you. This club will help you live in the moment, improve your focus, sleep better, overcome anxiety, lose weight, and build healthier relationships. The club will meet Friday at 3:45 in the west wing 225.
  • The FTS After School Tutoring Club is looking for students who are in need of extra help in their classes like Math, Biology, Chemistry, English.  If this is you, and you feel like you would benefit from academic tutoring from some of our global academy students please see Mrs. Vajner.  This is a student-led tutoring club, so if you would like to help tutor students, or if you would like to be tutored please contact Mrs. Vajner.  (Room 225) Every Monday and Thursday beginning at 3:45.
  • There will be a first meeting of the Religious Studies Club on Thursday in Room 223 from 3:45 – 4:30. If you are interested in learning about other religions, please come and join us! If you have any questions, see Mrs. Plummer in room 223.
Senior/Scholarship Information:

  • The National Honor Society will meet after school Tuesday 1/16 in the cafeteria immediately after school.
  • Key Club will not meet this week because of exam week.
  • Seniors, new scholarship opportunities have been posted in Edmodo. Don’t miss out on a chance to get college paid for! The code for the Edmodo page is in the Counseling Office on the Scholarship Board.
  • Seniors if you have received acceptance letters and/or scholarship offers and letters from the colleges and universities you have applied to, please make sure you get copies to your counselor. This information will be on display as well as logged in our scholarship report!
  • Mark your calendars for the eighth annual College Fair. This is a great opportunity to learn about academic programs, financial aid, registration requirements as well as the enrollment process. CACRAO. College Fair
  • Seniors who are applying to a college or university which require a counselor or teacher recommendation-remember that you will need to give a copy of a resume to your counselor and/or teacher so that they may write a recommendation for you. Counselors and teachers are receiving email notifications to submit recommendations online-but students have not submitted a copy of their resume to this individual. There are worksheet resumes in the counseling department for your convenience to fill out and leave with your counselor. There is also a Google Form that students can utilize on the Terry Sanford website. See the Student Services page under Forms…Student Recommendations Form.
  • It’s that time of year again to engage some of the seniors about the amazing Scholarship Opportunities available through the Horatio Alger Association. Currently, two $25,000 National Scholarships and twelve $10,000 state scholarships are available to NC graduating seniors, in addition to the new $2,500 CTE Scholarships for students who will attend a Technical or Community College.
  • NC State University
    College of EngineeringEngineering 2+2 Transfer Program at UNC Wilmington
    -A unique partnership between NC State and UNCW
    -Students complete the first two years of an undergraduate engineering degree at UNCW and then transfer to NC State to complete the degree in one of the 17-degree programs.
    -This program provides students an alternative pathway for admission to the NC State College of Engineering
