Caution sign with Hurricane Just Ahead in textThe Cumberland County Schools (CCS) is working closely with Cumberland County Emergency Management to monitor the path of Hurricane Florence. Based on weather projections and the State of Emergency issued by the Cumberland County Commissioners, there will be a three-hour early release for students on Wednesday, September 12. CCS’ Prime Time before- and after-school care program will close two hours after schools dismiss.

The school system will be closed on Thursday, September 13 and Friday, September 14 for all students and staff.

Currently, the projected make-up days are as follows:

  • Traditional Schools – Monday, October 22 & Wednesday, November 21
  • Year-Round Schools, Early College High Schools, & Cumberland Polytechnic High School – Tuesday, November 6 and Wednesday, November 21

“As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority,” said CCS’ Superintendent Dr. Marvin Connelly, Jr. “Based on our County Commissioners’ guidance during this State of Emergency, we encourage all staff members and students to adhere to the curfew, which will be effective beginning Wednesday. We hope everyone will take the necessary precautions to prepare for the storm and be safe. Additionally, we will continue to monitor the storm’s impact on Cumberland County and make any necessary decisions regarding school next week as soon as conditions allow.”

General Information:

  • The Mission of the Positivity Project is to empower YOU to build positive relationships – by understanding, appreciating, and exemplifying the character strengths in us all.  #OtherPeopleMatter
  • The Power of Hello – Howard White believes that every person deserves to feel someone acknowledge their presence, no matter how humble they may be or even how important. He says that he speaks to everyone he sees, no matter where he is. He’s learned that speaking to people creates a pathway into their world, and it lets them come into his, too.  The day you speak to someone who has their head down but lifts it up and smiles, you realize how powerful it is just to open your mouth and say, “Hello.” So let’s follow Mr. White’s advice, speak to everyone, HERE at FTS!
  • All after school activities Wednesday, September 12 are cancelled
  • Please remember that if students are registered for a High School Connections course, students will follow the CCS inclement weather policy.  For example, if CCS is closed, delayed, or has an early release those course sections will not meet.
  • If students are registered for a concurrent course, or regular FTCC course section, they will follow the FTCC inclement weather policy for those courses.  For example, if CCS is closed but FTCC is on regular schedule, those students will be expected to resume their regular FTCC schedule.
  • Make sure you check Blackboard for any potential assignments and to email their instructors if they have concerns and are able to do so. Read more
