SMART Lunch
Published by Dana Knight on September 4, 2019
.....................................................................................................................................................................................

Terry Sanford is starting a new program this year called SMART Lunch. It stands for Students Maximizing Achievement Relationships & Time. Over the years we have seen a decrease in the number of students who are involved in campus and life and not able to stay after school for various reasons. SMART Lunch will provide ALL students an opportunity during the middle of the day to take part in academic and enrichment activities. Additionally, this will help build rigor, relevance, and positive relationships.

So how does will this work? We have restructured our daily schedule by reducing each class period and building the extra time in to an 85 minute block between 2nd and 3rd periods. Students using an online schedule program called FlexTime Manager will select one lunch period and two activities. They can plan their week(s) in advance. Teachers can also select students to attend activities as well.

We are all excited about how SMART Lunch will “change the game” for ALL students Here…at FTS!
